How it works

1. Schedule an introductory meeting with us

15 minutes

We always start with a phone call of about fifteen minutes. During this interview we will answer your questions and determine if you meet the legal requirements for the au pair program. You can then create an account in our online customer portal and go through the registration process step by step.

Schedule your information meeting here.

2. Registration & Screening

four weeks

During the registration process you will have an extensive video call with us in which we go through all the ins and outs of the au pair program. You will also upload a number of documents required for the legal placement file, such as the au pair schedule and supporting documents of your identity, address and income.

Whether you have found an au pair yourself, or through us (read more about this on the page ‘find an au pair‘), in both cases we have an extensive online interview with the au pair. In addition, we assess submitted documents, references and social media posts. You can view the interview report and documents via the online customer portal.

3. Application for IND and preparation for

arrival of au pair

zero (European au pair) to six weeks

After the registration procedure has been completed, we submit the application for a visa and a residence permit to the IND (when applicable) via a special fast procedure. We assist the au pair in scheduling the visa appointment at the Dutch consulate in her country and in booking her flight to the Netherlands.

You will be kept informed of the progress via the customer portal. This is also the time to enroll in the (mandatory) au pair insurance and possibly sign her up for our language course ‘Dutch for au pairs’ or our workshop ‘First Aid for babies and children’. Read more about this on the page ‘Events & Training‘.

4. Welcome your au pair!

After a period of approximately eight weeks (European au pair: approximately four weeks) the time has come: your au pair will arrive in the Netherlands! She can immediately participate in our event program which consists a variety of outings and training sessions. When you come home after a busy work day, the food is already on the table and the children enthusiastically tell you about the fun things they have done with the au pair.

Your Au Pair International account manager will contact you regularly to discuss the progress of the placement. If there are any questions or issues that you cannot be resolved among yourselves, we will assist and guide you in finding an answer or solution.
